Ca’Mattei is situated about 8 minutes’ driving from San Lorenzo in Campo, in Le Marche, a region in the middle of Italy and between the Apenines and the Adriatic Coast.
To the North , Le Marche have Emilia Romagna and The Republic of San Marino as their border, to the West , Tuscany and Umbria. To the South and South-West they have The Abruzzi and Lazio as borders. The picturesque San Lorenzo in Campo , the closest village to Ca’Mattei, breathes the real typical rural Italian atmosphere, with some bakeries, bars : ideal for a morning cappuccino too, restaurants, supermarkets, a pharmacy, a bookstall, whatever needed for a bit of relaxing or for an excursion.
On Tuesday-mornings there is an open air market, with local and artisanal food and goods. Pergola, is about 10 minutes’ driving, it is more “townish ” and it has a hospital and more elaborate shopping facilities, and an extroardinary museum (I Bronzi Dorati). At Ca’Mattei your eyes get caught by a long range of mountains of The Apennines, from Monte Catria to Monte Conero, and on a clear day, you can spot the sea!
To the coast : driving to Marotta takes about 25 min., to Senigallia , 35 min., to Fano, 45 min. Ancona, a harbour -city, is the biggest city around, and: the rocky coast peninsula Conero (a bit further), are worth seeing. More hotspots of picturesque beach-villages are Portonuovo, Sirolo, and Numana. For real culture, a drive to the inland to Urbino, will be rewarding.
